DEADLINE: 21/03
Rethinking, reclaiming, remaking…
Curating the Young and Canapé vzw are joining forces for a new expo focusing on topics of reusing, repurposing and reinterpretation. From rethinking and reclaiming to remaking - we challenge artists to rethink existing works, approach scenography in new and innovative ways, give objects a new life and engage with the location and its surroundings.
The expo takes place at Villa Canapé, a former school building and director's residence, but recently turned into the permanent residence of non-profit organization and art collective Canapé. Canapé provides an accessible platform for young artists and collectives, where they can use the building as a stage, atelier or exhibition space for various art disciplines. The Villa was repurposed into a vibrant meeting place where art, creation and connection are central. Within this idea of repurposing, we encourage artists to work with concepts such as layering, reinterpretation and reuse. Like Villa Canapé, which took on new layers of meaning over time, we are looking for artworks that fit within this vision.
We invite artists and creators between the ages of 18 and 30 to submit a proposal. This can be an existing work that receives a new meaning in this context, or a new project that fits within our vision. We are open to all art forms: from visual arts (like painting, sculpture, photography, textiles, digital, etc.) to performance or installation. With a promise to add significance to the neighbourhood, we also encourage participatory projects that engage with the community and neighborhood residents of Villa Canapé. Participatory projects will equally be compensated.
