Sofie De Cleene

Sofie studied animation and has been creating since the beginning of time.

With her ceramics and drawings, she seeks perfection in imperfections. Drawings arise from stains, vases from blunders and faces from amorphous forms.

With cheerful colours, naive lines, humour and self-mockery, she tries to offer an answer to the futility of existence and the melancholy that comes with it.

In her work, she is always looking for novelty in materiality, tactility and functionality, with the pleasure of making and experiencing always coming first.

“En de zon brandde voort”

Translation: and the sun kept on burning.

Sofie created this work during a nude model session on an incredibly hot day. As an artist, she considers the model as an object, a vase with curves. The model will lie there and wait.

“Bloot”

A group exhibition with 10 young artists all over Flanders. Curating the young brings photography, paintings, poetry... to the streets of Brussels, Leuven, Ghent, Antwerp and Hasselt.

What does "Bloot" mean? It's nakedness, in all its forms. Discover how the artists translate this theme each in their own way.

This exhibition was made possible by Curating The Young, a young and dynamic curatorial collective that makes space for up-and-coming talent. For five years now, they have been providing a stage for young artists.
