Lisa Koo Gautama

Lisa Koo Gautama, is a poet, artist and writer, born in Belgium with Indochinese roots.

Her work combines poetry, photography, film and drawings, interwoven in her handmade books, movies and installations.

As a child of a migrated family, she address the feelings we might encounter in our postcolonial world: grief, numbness, shame, denial, anger, fear of our common past and how to confront it.

Lisa experiments with different media and formats to find a space to express our hidden realities, using imagination and playfulness to create a poetic, dreamlike yet raw microcosmos.

Her aim is to connect, to expose and bridge distances, a past and its effect on the present, and find ways to move towards tomorrow.

Part of ‘My arms’

The image shown in the exhibition is part of "My arms", which Lisa created in 2021. The work expresses the language that the body speaks, through photo-performances and poetry. The gestures of the body, the rational/language beforehand, reflect truths that our thoughts/words deny.

“Bloot”

A group exhibition with 10 young artists all over Flanders. Curating the young brings photography, paintings, poetry... to the streets of Brussels, Leuven, Ghent, Antwerp and Hasselt.

What does "Bloot" mean? It's nakedness, in all its forms. Discover how the artists translate this theme each in their own way.

This exhibition was made possible by Curating The Young, a young and dynamic curatorial collective that makes space for up-and-coming talent. For five years now, they have been providing a stage for young artists.
